This powerful book of selected passages from Martin Luther's Easter sermons vividly portrays the reformer's lasting thoughts on salvation through grace, human imperfection, faith, and the wonder of God. The sermons are in narrative form and cover Holy Week through the resurrection. They include some of Luther's characteristic fiery words: "The resurrection consists not in words, but in life and power" and "God is a glowing bake oven full of love". Eighteen delightful woodcuts by Luther's contemporary, Virgil Solis (taken from an abridgment of Luther's Bible of 1562), characterize Luther's treatment of biblical characters not as costumed actors in a pageant, but as persons agonizing and exulting over the mysteries of faith.
